Here's my story.
When I was a teenager I starved myself to be"model thin" and walk the runways of NYC Fashion Week. I was obsessive about food and my body and suffered from anorexia and bulimia.
I lost sight of who I was. I worked tirelessly only to feel hungry, exhausted, unhappy and completely replaceable.
When Fashion Week rolled around, the pressure to book famous designer shows caused my eating disorder to spiral out of control.
My body rebelled and I started to gain weight rapidly. I moved back home to Connecticut for "a break" which led to permanently quitting the fashion industry altogether.
Back in Connecticut my eating disorder hit it's ultimate low but with the help of my family I started to focus on recovery. I went to therapy and worked with a dietitian. After a few months of recovery I started college and slowly started to unlearn the fat phobic, oppressive dieting beliefs I had attached my dreams to. I started to reconnect with things that bring my soul joy: friends, family, spirituality, relationships, education, dancing, music and FUN.
Needless to say, recovery was tumultuous and emotional. I continued to suffer with bulimia until I was about 21 years old. As an adult, it's now my mission to help people recover from their eating disorders through coaching, blogging and speaking at live events. The purpose of all of this is to raise awareness, fight stigma and build resilience for those struggling with eating disorders and mental illness.
Now I am 28 years old and live in Denver, CO where I work at a behavioral health center. When I'm not focused on serving my clients or writing for Baby Got Back, I am taking classes towards my masters in Psychology at the Harvard Extension School. I love low key Sundays, hanging out with my twin sister, New York City, dogs, going to concerts, being a plant mom and dessert. If you put me on a dance floor be prepared to drag me off of it. Some people say that full recovery from an eating disorder is impossible, but they're wrong! I'm here! Your recovery IS possible!
